Preface

When Thales asked what the world is made of, he answered “water,” because water bends light and light bends us. Here, the rainbow is not a promise after flood but a Socratic moment: you step forward expecting certainty, and the spectrum shatters—each hue a question you must carry away. Walk slowly. Let the rainbow bruise you with invisible pigments. Leave carrying nothing you can hold, only the after-image of a question: if hope scatters at the touch, did it ever reside in the light, or in the approaching shadow that is you?
